It is the first step in being happier. It may sound obvious, but most of us do not apply this rule of deciding to be well.
A famous philosopher used to say: "You have to want to be happy and do the part of the work. If one remains in the position of the impartial spectator, leaving
only the entrance doors open, it is the sadness that enters". What we have to remember of this quote is that it is always less tireing to accept misfortune, and letting it take over; but it obviously does not help our well-being.
Facts are that the mankind's evolution seems to have favored the
existence of negative emotions, whose function is to increase the
chances of survival of the species and left a much smaller spectrum for positive emotions and moods. But it doesn't mean that we have to live this way.
Way too often, we increase the importance of our daily hassles, and realize afterwards how excessive our reaction was. So let's fix it by relativising immediately. Let's not let some minor issues spoil our lives.
How many times did I feel bad because I did something wrong at work, or feel guilty because I had to do something for a friend or family and I didn't? A lot, but trust me it doen't help.
Everyone can make mistakes or forget things. The important thing is that you will do the necessary to make it okay! And as long as you know that, you can feel better about it, so TRUST YOURSELF.
My point is that emotions can take us to dark places but it is our responsability to change what we feel in order to put things into perspective and let us the opportunity to be well.
So decide to keep out negative emotions and only save space for positive ones'!
In four words: DECIDE TO BE WELL!
